TERMS OF DESCRIPTION
AMOENA: White standards, colored falls
BB (Border Bearded): 16" to 27" tall Bloom same time as TB bloom
BEARDS: A line of fuzzy hairs at top center of each Fall petal
BICOLOR: Standards and falls are different color
BITONE: Standards and falls are two shades of same color
BLEND: combination of two or more colors
BLOOM TIME: E (early), M (mid-season), L (late)
DM (Dykes Medal): The highest award given by the American Iris Society, awarded to one iris per year.
FALLS (F): The lower 3 flower petals
GROUND: Base color under dots or stitches
HAFT: Area to each side of the beard, also called shoulder
HISTORIC: An iris that is over 30 years past its date of introduction.
IB (Intermediate Bearded): 16" to 27.5" Bloom at beginning TB bloom
LUMINATA: Wash of color on falls with paler veining
NEGLECTA: Light blue standards, darker falls
PLICATA: Marked with stitching, stipples, dots or sanded patterns
RE (Reblooms): Reblooms again in the fall
SA (Space Age): A bearded iris with horns, spoons, or flounces on beards
SELF: Both standards and falls are the same color
STANDARDS (S): The upper 3 flower petals
STYLE ARMS: Small inner segments above the beards
VARIEGATA: A bicolor with yellow standards, darker colored falls
